The University of Kentucky will be discontinuing its public listservs in the coming weeks. This includes the KYLMS listserv, which has served as a valuable resource for Kentucky school librarians for many years.
We understand the importance of a dedicated platform for school librarians to connect, to share information, and to collaborate. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that the Kentucky Library Association (KLA) will be launching its own series of e-lists to replace the UK listserv service.
Please note that participation in the new KLA e-lists is a benefit of KLA membership. To subscribe to and participate in the new KLA school librarian e-list (KASL E-list), you must be a current member of the Kentucky Library Association. Your membership supports KLA's initiatives to provide valuable advocacy, resources, and services to the Kentucky library community.
Join KLA: The Kentucky Association of School Librarians is a section of the Kentucky Library Association (KLA). To join KASL, you must join KLA. If you are not yet a KLA member, or if your membership needs renewal, please review our directions on how to join KLA and KASL.
Subscribe to the KASL E-list: Once your KLA membership is active, you will be able to subscribe to the KASL E-list (listserv). These are detailed instructions on how to subscribe.
We are committed to a smooth transition and to maintaining a robust communication network for all Kentucky school librarians. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes.
For any questions regarding your KLA membership or the new e-lists, please contact erin.weaver@kasl.us.
To ensure our KASL E-list remains a supportive and productive environment for all members, please keep the following in mind:
Be Respectful: Treat all colleagues with courtesy and respect, even when opinions differ. Personal attacks, insults, or demeaning language are never acceptable.
Stay Relevant: Please keep discussions focused on topics relevant to school libraries and the purpose of this E-list.
Be Constructive: When offering feedback or differing viewpoints, strive for constructive criticism and helpful suggestions.
Think Before You Post: Remember that emails sent to the E-list are visible to all members. Consider the impact and clarity of your words before you hit that send button. We highly recommend using a personal email address for your KLA/KASL membership. If you use a school/government-provided address, you open up ALL conversations in the list to open records requests.
No Spam or Excessive Self-Promotion: This E-list isn't for advertising commercial products or excessive self-promotion.
Protect Privacy: Do not share personal information about other members or students. This includes images/video.
Report Concerns: If you encounter any content that violates these guidelines, please report it to listserv@kasl.us.
If you have any questions about the E-list, don't hesitate to reach out to listserv@kasl.us.
